The current building dates from 1906, but the previous building dated from at least 1754 and was the oldest pub in Radlett.
It used to be supplied by local breweries at King's Langley and Abbot's Langley, but was bought in the 20th century by the firm that became Trust Houses Forte. Radlett itself is mainly a product of railway development, which arrived in 1868 when there were fewer that 500 inhabitants. It takes its name from an old word meaning road junction.
